FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR. PROFESSOR, NYU COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY

Dr. Richard Niederman, DMD

Dr. Richard Niederman is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Health Promotion at the New York University College of Dentistry, and former department chair. He is a CariedAway™ and NYU World Health Organization Collaborating Center founder, and a co-author of the textbook Evidence-Based Dentistry.

Rick graduated magna cum laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he also received his periodontal specialty training. He received certificate training in Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University, and worked in Brazil as a Fulbright Senior Specialist.

He began his clinical work at the Boston VA Medical Center. Following specialty training he collaborated on the development of periodontal disease models in knock-out mice, and human periodontal DNA diagnostics, and therapeutics using tetracycline fibers, beta-glucans, and GORE-TEX Periodontal Material. After the 2000 Surgeon General’s Report on oral health, Rick shifted his focus to implementing effective caries prevention programs locally, nationally, and globally.

FOUNDER AND CLINICAL DIRECTOR

Mary Davis, RDH, CPHDH

Mary Davis, RDH, CPHDH is a New Hampshire certified public health dental hygienist and a CariedAway founder. Mary leads the school-based cavity prevention and treatment program as CariedAway NH Concord’s clinical director.

Mary brings deep experience to this initiative, having initiated school-based programs with Lamprey Health Care; Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital; the Concord Dental Sealant Coalition in the Concord, Merrimack Valley, and Pittsfield school systems; and a New Hampshire-wide school sealant program over the past 30 years.

Mary currently works with 13 elementary and middle schools in the Concord, Pittsfield, and Merrimack Valley school districts. She received additional training at Forsyth Institute and participates with Dr. Niederman’s project, NH Statewide Implementation and Evaluation of a Rural, School-based, Caries Prevention Program. Mary works as the NH Coordinating Public Health Dental Hygienist for the project, Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion, College of Dentistry, New York University.

Mary graduated with Highest Distinction, University of Maine with a Degree in Dental Hygiene, concentration in Biology.

DENTAL ASSISTANT

Crystal Nuzzo

Crystal is the dedicated dental assistant at CariedAway™ NH Concord. With a passion for oral health and a commitment to patient satisfaction, Crystal has been an integral part of the dental field since 2017.

Her extensive experience in private dental practices has honed her skills, making her a valuable asset to our team. Beyond her professional pursuits, Crystal finds joy in contributing to her community. During her off time, she generously volunteers as a youth basketball coach at the local recreation department, showcasing her commitment to the well-being of others.
